Sometimes I like to torture myself so I can remember why I prefer iOS– at this stage –over any other OS on the market. Wasting hours of my time, looking back and thinking, “the solution was so simple” or “why the bloody hell did waste time on something which didn’t work?!”
The beauty with iOS is that it’s simple and it just works. Keeping in mind that under the hood is a scaled down version of OSX [Unix].
What is presented to you on the screen is what it can do; nothing more, nothing less. Most of the time that saves a lot of time.
Why?
Because it keeps you from bloody tinkering!
Today I decided to sort my external HDDs and my back-up disk. I don’t want them cluttering up my desk, so I keep them neatly tucked away; which results in my back-ups being far between. Mainly because I can’t be arsed digging up the bastard every week.
To make a long story short, as I’m bloody tired and not that sober; I tinkered, thought, planned and finally got FreeNAS working.
At this point one of the disks connected to the FreeNAS serves as a networked Time Machine Backup. Tomorrow I’ll see if I can get more dedicated disks up and running for different purposes.
Now I’m going to bed…
NB: Ignore any typos, etc as I bought a new bottle of Scotch today…
